Paturau, West Coast
Location
Paturau is on the West Coast side of Golden Bay and Farewell spit, located about 175km from Nelson, or about a 3 hour drive with the last 45 minutes on gravel road. Limited mobile reception.
Wind Direction
Paturau is good on broadly Westerly winds, ranging from SW to NW with SW the predominate direction. Beware, the area is known to have strong changeable wind, small kites recommended.

Suitable for experienced level only. Kitesurfers should only ride here if experienced and avoid kitesurfing alone.

Generally strong winds, strong currents, rips, and very big waves. Sandy beach with occasional large rocks. Typically very strong SW wind direction with a westerly swell direction. This is Nelsons premier wave location.
